Waterproofing before tile
A shower fails at the membrane, never at the tile. Bonded waterproofing and correctly sloped pre-slope go in before a single piece is set.
Substrate flatness first
Large-format tile shows every high spot. Floors are checked and leveled before installation, not corrected with thinset afterward.
Movement joints where they belong
Perimeter and field movement joints keep stone and porcelain from tenting when the slab moves.
One person, one standard
No rotating subcontractors. The person who quotes the job is the person who sets the tile.
